Last week the TTC welcomed it’s 60th streetcar at the Leslie Street TTC yard!

This is great news for our city. Public transportation connects us to our jobs, schools, and communities, which is why our government is proud to support the expansion of the TTC’s streetcar fleet, ensuring residents have reliable, accessible, and zero-emission transit to move through our city.

Our new government is increasing its investment from $758 million to $950 million for the purchase of 55 new subway trains for Toronto’s Line 2. 

This is the first investment announced under the Buy Canadian Policy. This strategy is designed to ensure that public dollars are used to support Canadian jobs, businesses, and communities across the country. As part of this policy, the new subway trains will now be made with 55 per cent Canadian materials.

This investment will directly contribute to more than 900 jobs across Canada and is expected to support more than 1,700 jobs nationwide. This puts our workers and industries first, allowing Canada to compete more effectively in global markets, now and in the long term.

From January 15th- March 29th, 2026, public consultations are taking place for the new Alto high-speed rail network between Toronto and Quebec City, with the first leg of the network to be built between Ottawa and Montreal.

Helping Canadians build their futures starts with making education more accessible. The Student Loan Forgiveness Program lightens the financial load for graduates entering essential professions and equips remote and rural communities with their much-needed talent.

This month, I was happy to announce the awarding of a $9.47 million contract to improve Rouge Beach and Marsh in Canada’s first national urban park.

This investment will help restore habitats, improve visitor facilities and enhance accessibility in one of the park’s most popular and ecologically significant areas, marking a key milestone in Rouge National Urban Park’s 10th anniversary year.

Communities across Canada are on the front lines of climate change, and they need the tools to adapt and thrive. Our government, in partnership with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, is working to help municipalities turn plans into action.

In Newfoundland, I announced 80 adaptation projects across Canada, 25 of which are being developed in Newfoundland and Labrador. These projects support Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy in creating long-term resilience in the face of climate change and will keep Canadian communities safer and healthier today and for years to come.

Combat Science – Warrior Arts of Asia is hosting a donation drive to support Filipino newcomers. They are accepting new or gently used winter clothing or non-perishable food items. The donation drive will take place at 603 Gerrard Street East on Sunday January 18th and 25th, and February 1st and 8th from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM.
