May 2025 Updates

Dear Neighbour,

I am honoured and grateful to have been re-elected as your Member of Parliament for Toronto-Danforth. Thank you for placing your trust in me once again. I’m already back to work for our community, and I’m focused on delivering on the issues that matter the most our community like the challenges to our economy and sovereignty from President Trump’s U.S. government, affordability, housing, and climate action. I look forward to bringing back to Ottawa all your feedback and ideas for how we can build a stronger Canada.

I’m also deeply honoured and humbled to have been appointed Minister of Environment and Climate Change in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet. Canadians want an ambitious climate policy that moves beyond division, and a government that drives investment, builds the economy of the future, and brings our emissions down. I am committed to delivering exactly that. I will work to ensure our government fights climate change, protects our environment, and helps communities better prepare from extreme weather events – so we can build a healthier, more sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come.

The Speech from the Throne

King Charles the III has delivered the speech from the throne to open the 45th parliament. It was exciting to see so many people out on the streets of Ottawa to celebrate the special day.

As a country we find ourselves at a time when our sovereignty, economy, and international relationships are under threat. In this critical moment, Canadians made a decisive choice for stability, vision, and leadership by electing Prime Minister Carney. The Prime Minister is a leader with a strong, thoughtful plan grounded in experience, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting what matters most: our values, our sovereignty, and the institutions we hold dear as Canadians. I’m proud to stand with him as we work together to build a more secure, united and resilient Canada.

Our government has a clear set of priorities including:

Establishing a new economic and security relationship with the United States and strengthening our collaboration with reliable trading partners and allies around the world.
Building one Canadian economy by removing barriers to interprovincial trade and identifying and expediting nation-building projects that will connect and transform our country.
Bringing down costs for Canadians and helping them to get ahead.
Making housing more affordable by unleashing the power of public-private cooperation, catalysing a modern housing industry, and creating new careers in the skilled trades.
Protecting Canadian sovereignty and keeping Canadians safe by strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces, securing our borders, and reinforcing law enforcement.
Attracting the best talent in the world to help build our economy, while returning our overall immigration rates to sustainable levels.
Spending less on government operations so that Canadians can invest more in the people and businesses that will build the strongest economy in the G7.

Making Life More Affordable

Our government’s first order of business was put forward a middle class tax cut. We are delivering on our mandate to bring down costs and making life more affordable.

This measure will provide tax relief for nearly 22 million Canadians, saving families up to $840 a year– generating more savings, and helping hard-working Canadians keep more of their paycheques to spend where it matters most.
