Dear Neighbour,
Over the next week we will see lights and candles glowing as our community celebrates Diwali and Halloween. As we see our days shorten with the turning back of clocks on Sunday, it will be nice to come together to share light and fun around the community. This week also marks the beginning of the period of remembrance with the Oxi Day Parade this weekend and the beginning of the poppy campaign leading up to Aboriginal Veteran’s Day and Remembrance Day in November.
Please continue to reach out with your thoughts and concerns.

Ontario Line Construction
|
I have spoken with many community members about the ongoing Ontario Line construction and how it has been affecting them. There have been many questions about health impacts from construction dust and debris, noise and safety disruptions, business disruption, and expropriations. While, large infrastructure projects are bound to lead to challenges, but it needs to be done in a way that respects community members, their livelihoods, and their homes.
While Metrolinx is a provincial agency, not within my jurisdiction, I have been passing along the feedback I have heard from community members. I will remain in contact with Metrolinx as the construction continues, to encourage them to respond fully with community members.
Please do let me know if you have Ontario Line concerns or questions that you would like me to forward to Metrolinx. You can also get some updates and information at their website: https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/ontario-line

Promoting Music, Theatre and Dance in our community
|
|
|
The live performance industry is an important employer in our community and supports many of our local businesses. It also brings us joy as we come together to watch our favourite plays, dance, or listen to music. Recently, I met with live performance organizations to hear from them about how to build on the work that I have done over the past years to promote the work that they are doing.

Louis March was a champion to end gun violence in our city and I was sad to hear of his passing this summer. I have learned from his advice and ideas over the years, leading not only to our freeze on handgun sales, transfers and imports, but also on the creation of the National School Food Program which he suggested as a means of diverting youth from guns and gangs. I spoke in Parliament about Louis March and reflected on the important work he led throughout his life.
