Happy Earth Week to everyone! I wanted to highlight several events in our neighbourhood to get outside and help out in nature. I’ll also be speaking with several local MPs about Environment and Climate Change this Sunday on Facebook Live at 2pm (you do not need a Facebook account to watch).
Toronto Nature Stewards (TNS) has two local chapters at Middle Mill and Cherry Beach. Please visit their website to see how you can get more involved.
Thursday, April 20th, 5:30pm
The Middle Mill Stewards will be kicking off the season with buckthorn busting, planting, caterpillar counting and more! They meet near the base of Beechwood Drive, please connect with them for the exact location.
Saturdays, April 22nd & 29th, and Sunday April 30th, 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
On these dates, the Cherry Beach Stewards will be fighting phragmites and busting buckthorns at 2 Regatta Road.
Let’s Clean up the Meadowway at 51 Singleton Road in Scarborough. This is a bit further afield, but I am thrilled that we have provided federal funding to turn 16 kilometres of under-utilized land into one of Canada’s largest urban linear parks, spanning across neighbourhoods in Toronto and connecting to Rouge National Urban Park.
I’ll be joining my colleagues, Minister Bennett, Minister Mendicino and MP Oliphant to discuss how Budget 2023 is targeting environmental issues and the initiatives proposed to build a green economy. If you have any questions, please submit them here. I hope you can tune in! (Please note you do not need a Facebook account to watch.)
Have a good Earth Week and if I’ve missed any local events, please let me know and I can share to social media.
Yours truly,
Julie
