Funding Safer Schools in our Community

Late last summer, the federal government allocated money for Ontario's schools for a Safe Restart. On April 12, 2021, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and provincial partners, announced over $525.2 million for upgrades to Ontario’s education infrastructure to protect students and staff from COVID-19. As part of COVID-19 Resiliency stream funding, the federal government is providing 80% of total costs for these projects. In Toronto—Danforth this is over $5.2 million across 36 schools. This funding will make important upgrades and improvement to HVAC systems, water bottle refilling stations, improvements to network and broadband infrastructure, and space reconfigurations such as installing new walls and doors to enhance physical distancing. Students, teachers, and staff deserve to learn and work in safe, modern learning spaces, and these investments will improve the safety of schools and classrooms here and across Ontario.
